Our History Spans over 37 Years!
I did not know much of ThirdWeekenders’ history even though I’ve been with the group for several years. I knew the group started a long time ago, more than 30 years, so I recently asked one of our members who’s been around since the beginning. He graciously provided the following history.
“The Third Weekenders Camping Group was originally formed in 1973 as the San Diego Camping Group. In about 1977, the First Weekenders Camping Group was formed by some of the members of the San Diego Camping Group who were interested in increased camping opportunities. Within a few years the name “San Diego Camping” evolved to the Third Weekenders. The First Weekenders Camping Group eventually disbanded. Throughout its years of existence, Third Weekender membership has fluctuated greatly, but those dedicated to the unique weekend experience offered by the group have kept it going.”
